- Futures turned lower. Nasdaq-100 futures fell 1.5% and S&P 500 futures slid 0.6% Thursday evening as Amazon and Intel sold off after earnings, while Dow futures added just 17 points.
- Soft guidance drove big drops. Roblox fell 17% after guiding fourth-quarter bookings to $1.89 billion to $2.00 billion against a $2.00 billion estimate, Twilio lost 17% as the low end of its fourth-quarter adjusted EPS guide of $1.48 to $1.53 fell short of the $1.49 estimate, and Stryker dropped 12% after guiding full-year adjusted EPS to $14.80 to $14.90 versus $14.95 expected.
- Pinterest and Sandisk also slid. Pinterest fell 8% after missing on EPS and revenue and guiding fourth-quarter revenue to $1.425 billion to $1.475 billion versus $1.52 billion expected, while Sandisk fell 3% despite adjusted EPS of $49.51 versus $46.22 expected and an 8-for-1 stock split.
- Rivian bucked the trend. The EV maker rose about 5% after hours after a 48-cent adjusted loss per share beat the 62-cent estimate, revenue of $2.16 billion topped $1.99 billion, and it raised its 2026 delivery forecast to 67,000 to 70,000 vehicles.
What Happened?
A heavy batch of after-hours earnings Thursday weighed on tech-heavy futures. Starbucks also slipped about 2% after revenue of $9.14 billion missed the $9.23 billion estimate, even as adjusted EPS topped forecasts. The selling spread to Asia on Friday, where SK Hynix fell 6.36%, Samsung Electronics slipped 3.45%, Advantest lost 5.43%, Tokyo Electron dropped 3.93% and SoftBank Group fell 4.66%.
Why It Matters?
The reactions show how little room for error investors are giving companies this season: several beat on the quarter but were punished for forward guidance. Rivian was the exception, delivering a record 19,248 vehicles in the third quarter, with its R2 SUV now its best-selling model, after the stock had hit a 52-week low of $11.38 earlier Thursday. Rivian also cut its 2026 capital spending forecast to $1.4 billion to $1.5 billion.
What’s Next?
Friday brings results from Exxon Mobil and Chevron, whose shares are up 17% and 21% over the past three months as oil prices climbed, and Apple reports Monday in John Ternus’ first earnings as CEO. Traders will watch whether Thursday night’s weakness in futures carries into the cash session.
