Accenture’s AI Paradox: $130 Billion Valuation Hinges on Survival Question as Organic Growth Faces Deflationary Pressure; Investor Day Must Prove Consulting Model Survives

  • Dow expects about $1.11 billion of fourth-quarter operating EBITDA from its packaging and specialty plastics segment, its largest business. That beats Wall Street’s average estimate of $1.02 billion and implies a 93% surge from a year earlier.
  • Third-quarter net sales rose 13%, the second straight quarter of double-digit growth, a streak not seen in almost four years. Sales were broadly in line with expectations, while operating income topped analysts’ average estimate.
  • CFO Jeff Tate credited a September price increase and lower spending for the expected growth. Higher-margin markets such as AI infrastructure and consumer electronics should help offset rising feedstocks and continued softness in building and construction, he said.
  • Shares rose 4.2% in premarket trading in New York and were already up 30% this year as of Wednesday’s close. The guidance shows a chemical maker finding AI exposure through materials rather than chips.

What Happened?

Dow said on Thursday it expects earnings in its largest business to almost double in the fourth quarter from a year earlier, Bloomberg reported. The Michigan-based company guided to about $1.11 billion of operating EBITDA in packaging and specialty plastics, compared with $576 million in the fourth quarter of 2025. Tate said in an interview that the outlook reflects “a combination of our self-help actions, our pricing improvement actions.” The company also reported 13% growth in third-quarter net sales.

Why It Matters?

Pricing power is the key takeaway, because pushing through a September increase while feedstock costs rise suggests customers are absorbing higher prices. Lower spending amplifies that, turning sales growth into much larger earnings growth. The AI angle broadens the investment case, as infrastructure and electronics demand pulls through higher-margin products. The outlook also helps support a rally that had already lifted the stock 30% this year.

What’s Next?

Watch whether the September price increase sticks through the fourth quarter as feedstock costs climb. Building and construction remains the soft spot, and any recovery there would add upside. Investors will also look for evidence that AI infrastructure demand is a durable driver rather than a one-quarter boost. Fourth-quarter results will show whether Dow delivers on its roughly $1.11 billion segment target.
