- Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told CNBC that demand for neoclouds is “off the charts” but that scarce working capital is holding back growth. “The demand of the capital is much greater than the availability of the capital,” he said, adding that it is going to get solved.
- CoreWeave has roughly $51.6 billion of total debt, including about $35 billion in notes, bonds and loans. Its shares fell 3.55% on Thursday and are down 14% over the past week, as its bond yields rose and credit default swap spreads widened.
- Blackstone’s Jon Gray said CoreWeave has a strong CEO and will “find a way through it,” calling the underlying business quite strong. He said compute pricing is up 50%, legacy chips are worth more than people thought and neocloud data centers are leased below market.
- Neocloud stocks fell in premarket trading Thursday, with Nebius down 3.6%, CoreWeave down 4% and Iren and Applied Digital off nearly 4%. Investors are worried about how much the AI buildout costs and how long the returns will take.
What Happened?
Huang spoke to CNBC on the sidelines of Nvidia’s GTC conference in Berlin, where he said Europe will need a lot more neoclouds. Nvidia has committed nearly $10 billion to European companies, universities and research institutions, including a stake worth over $1 billion in five UK startups. Separately, Gray told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that CoreWeave and its peers face challenges over the capital needed to deliver on their promises. Both executives described demand for computing power as strong while supply remains constrained.
Why It Matters?
The two interviews frame the AI infrastructure debate in one line: the demand is real, but the financing is the bottleneck. Neoclouds borrow heavily to build data centers ahead of revenue, so rising rates and wider credit spreads hit them harder than cash-rich hyperscalers. For Nvidia, the health of these customers matters because they buy its chips to build out capacity. Gray’s comments carry weight because he says he sees strong compute demand across the private companies Blackstone holds.
What’s Next?
Watch CoreWeave’s credit default swaps and bond yields as the clearest real-time gauge of funding stress. Any new financing deals for neoclouds, and their terms, will show whether Huang is right that the capital gap gets solved. Gray said that if the neoclouds get to the other side, the economics look strong, making refinancing over the next few quarters the key test. Further selloffs in Nebius, Iren and Applied Digital would signal the market doubts that path.
