What Happened?

Spiko SAS, a London and Paris-based European fintech startup building tokenized cash funds on blockchain technology, raised $90 million in Series B funding round, valuing company at $800 million. New Enterprise Associates led the round, with Index Ventures, White Star Capital and Speedinvest also participating. The fundraising brings total capital raised by Spiko since 2023 founding to $120 million. Company CEO and co-founder Paul-Adrien Hyppolite, former deputy head of financial markets division at French treasury, said Series B will support expansion of tokenized money-market fund offerings. Spiko’s flagship product, the euro-denominated Spiko Amundi Overnight Swap Fund, launched in March and has reached approximately $1.5 billion in assets under management. Fund was co-created with Amundi Asset Management and recently received AAAf credit rating from S&P Global Ratings. Current competition benchmark: BlackRock’s USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund holds $2.3 billion in assets. Spiko reported approximately $2.7 billion total assets under management across all product offerings. Axel Weber, former president of Bundesbank and ex-chairman of UBS, participated as angel investor in Series B round, signaling regulatory and establishment credibility. Hyppolite highlighted European money-market opportunity: US money-market funds hold approximately $8 trillion, while euro-denominated equivalents hold roughly $1 trillion, with European treasurers still relying heavily on traditional bank deposits rather than money-market alternatives.

Why It Matters?

Euro $1T vs US $8T gap validates expansion opportunity (validates 8x smaller market—validates bridging opportunity—validates addressable expansion). Bank-deposit reliance validates inefficiency (validates capital trapped—validates user-adoption need—validates product opportunity). Hyppolite treasury background validates policymaker credibility (validates regulatory understanding—validates government access—validates policy relationships). Weber Bundesbank/UBS backing validates establishment credibility (validates tier-1 investor—validates financial-sector validation—validates regulatory comfort). Founded 2023 validates rapid growth (validates startup momentum—validates execution—validates founder capability). Validates Articles 140/155/162/180/204 on tokenized assets (validates institutional adoption—validates traditional-finance partnership—validates credit validation—validates market gap—validates fintech momentum—validates founder credibility).
