SBI Group Invests $25M in Stablecoin Payments Firm dtcpay; Validates Strategy Spanning Ripple RLUSD, Circle Arc, Coinhako
Share on TelegramShare on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on LinkedinShare on Whatsapp
  • Japan’s SBI Group completed a $25 million Series A funding round in stablecoin payments firm dtcpay through SBI Ventures Asset and SBI-NTU-Kyobo Digital Innovation Fund. Dtcpay provides crypto infrastructure including asset conversion, custody, and Visa-linked card enabling stablecoin spending like cash. Firm holds Major Payment Institution license from Singapore’s Monetary Authority and operates in Europe, Hong Kong, Australia, and North America. CEO Alice Liu stated “We raised it to fundamentally change how money moves across borders.”
  • SBI’s dtcpay investment is part of broader strategy to secure regulated pipelines connecting Japanese capital with Southeast Asian commercial channels. Stablecoins provide high-speed alternative to slow traditional correspondent banking when intermediary meets regulatory standards. SBI’s multibillion-dollar stake in Ripple is expanding to distribute RLUSD stablecoin; SBI recently acquired Singapore’s Coinhako; SBI serving as founding validator for Circle’s Arc network. Dtcpay investment validates SBI’s thesis on regulated stablecoin infrastructure.
  • The $25 million will fund enterprise portal, enhanced application features, and merchant expansion. Dtcpay competes in fast-growing regulated stablecoin payments space with partnerships spanning Visa (card infrastructure), Ripple (RLUSD distribution), and Circle (Arc network). SBI’s participation signals institutional confidence in dtcpay’s regulatory footprint and cross-border payment thesis.
  • The investment underscores SBI’s systematic capital deployment across stablecoin banking, digital-asset infrastructure, and blockchain validators—positioning SBI as Japan’s leading financial group bridging traditional capital with crypto-native payments infrastructure. Dtcpay’s Visa card and Major Payment Institution license validate that regulated stablecoin payments are moving from speculative to mainstream infrastructure.

What Happened?

Japan’s SBI Group completed a $25 million Series A funding round in stablecoin payments firm dtcpay through SBI Ventures Asset and SBI-NTU-Kyobo Digital Innovation Fund. Dtcpay provides crypto infrastructure including asset conversion, custody, and Visa-linked card enabling stablecoin spending. Dtcpay holds Major Payment Institution license from Singapore’s Monetary Authority and operates across Europe, Hong Kong, Australia, and North America. The $25 million will fund enterprise portal, enhanced features, and merchant expansion. SBI’s investment is part of broader strategy expanding RLUSD distribution through Ripple stake, acquiring Coinhako, and serving as founding validator for Circle’s Arc network.

Why It Matters?

For SBI shareholders, the dtcpay investment validates SBI’s thesis that regulated stablecoin infrastructure is becoming mainstream financial plumbing. For Visa shareholders, dtcpay partnership expands use cases for Visa network beyond traditional payments into stablecoin spending. For Ripple stakeholders, SBI’s dtcpay investment validates RLUSD distribution thesis and shows major financial institutions anchoring stablecoin deployment. For Circle and USDC stakeholders, SBI’s Arc validator role plus dtcpay infrastructure create complementary stablecoin payment channels. For the broader crypto industry, SBI’s systematic capital deployment signals that Asian financial giants (not just US/European) are building regulated stablecoin infrastructure.

What’s Next?

Monitor dtcpay’s merchant expansion announcements; if the company signs major enterprise or fintech partners, it would validate SBI’s $25M investment thesis. Watch for additional SBI investments in stablecoin/blockchain infrastructure; if pattern continues, it signals SBI commitment to becoming leading crypto-native financial group. Track RLUSD adoption on dtcpay platform; if cross-border payment volumes through RLUSD surge, it validates SBI’s Ripple stake expansion rationale. Monitor Circle’s Arc network expansion; if dtcpay becomes major validator/payment channel, it would show Arc network gaining traction. Also watch for regulatory developments in Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia on stablecoin payments; if approvals accelerate, it would enable dtcpay’s expansion timeline.

Affected Tickers & Coins: 8473 (SBI Holdings), V (Visa), RLUSD, USDC
