The AI Capex Machine Keeps Roaring — Nvidia’s Manufacturing Partner Hon Hai Crushes Estimates as Server Demand Drowns Out Recession Fears

  • Nvidia will invest $3 billion in Meta Platforms’ planned equity fundraise as the two companies expand their artificial-intelligence partnership, the companies said in a statement reported by The Wall Street Journal. Nvidia shares were up 2.39% and Meta was down 1.88% in the WSJ’s market data.
  • The partnership centers on Meta’s AI offering Muse, a move the companies said reflects demand for “useful” AI agents. Meta intends to increase its deployment of Nvidia infrastructure, including Vera Rubin and Vera central processing units, for next-generation AI agents, and the two are also considering working together in areas like monitoring agent behavior.
  • Meta announced on Monday a plan to raise up to $95 billion in waves of stock offerings to bankroll its massive investments in AI infrastructure. It initially said it would launch roughly $35 billion in public offerings, made up of $22.5 billion of Class A common stock and $12.5 billion of depositary shares representing mandatory convertible preferred stock.
  • Meta then upsized the common stock tranche to $25 billion, lifting the first wave to about $37.5 billion (Lumida calculation). The Class A shares are priced at $625 each and the depositary shares at $50 apiece. Nvidia’s $3 billion equals about 3.2% of the full $95 billion plan (Lumida calculation).

What Happened?

Nvidia and Meta announced an expanded collaboration tied to Meta’s Muse AI offering, under which Meta will step up its use of Nvidia hardware, including Vera Rubin and Vera CPUs, for next-generation AI agents. Alongside the technology tie-up, Nvidia agreed to put $3 billion into Meta’s planned equity fundraise. The commitment comes a day after Meta unveiled a plan to raise up to $95 billion through waves of stock sales, starting with about $35 billion of Class A shares and mandatory convertible preferred depositary shares, before increasing the common stock portion to $25 billion. The Class A shares were priced at $625, and the depositary shares at $50.

Why It Matters?

Nvidia’s investment turns a supplier relationship into a direct stake in one of its biggest customers’ funding plans, and it comes with a commitment from Meta to deploy more Nvidia infrastructure. For investors, it ties part of Meta’s equity raise to future spending on Nvidia chips and CPUs, an arrangement that links the two stocks more closely to the pace of AI infrastructure buildout. The upsizing of the common stock tranche also shows Meta is leaning harder on equity to fund its AI ambitions, and the stocks moved in opposite directions, with Meta down and Nvidia up in the WSJ’s market data.

What’s Next?

Investors will watch how the remaining waves of Meta’s up to $95 billion fundraising are rolled out after the first roughly $37.5 billion, and whether other partners join Nvidia in committing capital. On the operating side, the next markers are Meta’s rollout of Vera Rubin and Vera CPU infrastructure for its AI agents and any formal agreement on joint work in areas such as monitoring agent behavior. Further dilution from the share sales and the price of later tranches relative to the $625 Class A offering price will be key for Meta shareholders.
