Kalshi Partners With the Weather Company to Expand Climate Prediction Markets

Kalshi Partners With the Weather Company to Expand Climate Prediction Markets
Share on TelegramShare on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on LinkedinShare on Whatsapp
  • Kalshi, the regulated prediction market platform whose weather trades have been among its fastest-growing products, announced a partnership with the Weather Company — operator of one of the world’s most widely used weather apps — under which the Weather Co. will serve as the outcome verification authority for Kalshi’s climate and weather prediction markets, lending institutional meteorological credibility to a product category that has attracted significant retail and institutional trader interest.
  • The partnership targets event-specific expansion: both companies said they want to develop new weather markets tied to sporting events — citing local ski conditions and marathon race-day weather as examples — a move that would extend Kalshi’s weather market footprint from broad climate predictions (will 2026 be the hottest year ever?) and city-level temperature bets (what will the high temperature be in Los Angeles on a given day?) into more granular, event-tied contracts with natural audiences among sports fans, race organizers, and outdoor recreation businesses.
  • Kalshi chose the Weather Company specifically because of its standing as “one of the most trusted meteorological brands” — a credibility consideration that matters in prediction markets because the reliability of the outcome verification oracle is as important as the market mechanism itself; disputes about whether a market resolved correctly destroy trader confidence faster than almost any other operational failure.
  • The partnership represents a broader maturation of the US prediction market space: Kalshi won a landmark legal battle to operate event-contract markets in the US and has since expanded rapidly across political, economic, and weather verticals; bringing in a recognized meteorological institution as a verification partner signals that the platform is building the institutional infrastructure to sustain large and liquid markets rather than relying on informal or in-house resolution processes.

What Happened?

Kalshi announced a partnership with the Weather Company under which the Weather Co. will verify outcomes on Kalshi’s climate and weather-prediction markets. The collaboration will also explore new weather-specific contracts tied to sporting events, with ski conditions and marathon race days cited as initial examples. Kalshi’s weather markets allow traders to speculate on outcomes ranging from daily temperature highs in specific cities to whether the current year will set a global temperature record. The Weather Company’s institutional meteorological expertise and brand credibility are the core assets Kalshi is acquiring through the partnership.

Why It Matters?

Prediction markets are only as good as their resolution mechanisms: if traders don’t trust that outcomes will be determined accurately and impartially, liquidity evaporates. Bringing in the Weather Company — a brand with decades of meteorological credibility and one of the most-used weather data platforms in the world — as Kalshi’s outcome verifier for climate trades is a meaningful institutional upgrade that should increase trader confidence and allow Kalshi to offer larger and more complex weather contracts. The expansion into event-specific markets (ski conditions, marathons) is strategically interesting because it targets audiences with strong weather dependencies and existing prediction interest — skiers, runners, and event organizers all have natural reasons to hedge or speculate on specific weather outcomes, creating more organic demand than purely speculative weather bets.

What’s Next?

Watch for the specific new markets Kalshi and the Weather Company launch together, particularly the sporting event contracts — these will test whether event-specific weather markets can attract the kind of liquidity that makes prediction markets useful rather than just novel. The broader question for Kalshi is whether its weather market success translates into a sustainable revenue model: prediction platforms live and die on trading volume, and weather markets need to attract both directional traders and natural hedgers (businesses exposed to weather outcomes) to generate the two-sided liquidity that makes prices informative. A partnership with an institutional data provider is a necessary condition for that, but not sufficient on its own.
