Apple’s Biggest Product Wave in Years Is About to Land: Mac Mini, Foldable iPhone, AirPods 5, OLED iPad Mini — and a New CEO

Why Apple’s AI Approach May Save Its Reputation
Share on TelegramShare on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on LinkedinShare on Whatsapp
  • Apple is days away from launching an updated Mac Mini — its first refresh in nearly two years — in versions tested with both M5 and M6 chips, ahead of a September 9 iPhone launch event that will introduce the company’s first-ever foldable smartphone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro line; the Mac Mini launch will likely be the last new product released under CEO Tim Cook, who hands the reins to hardware engineering chief John Ternus on September 1.
  • The Mac Mini update is driven by two converging pressures: a surge in demand as the current model became a popular tool for running AI applications locally (supply has been constrained for months, with deliveries taking weeks or months), and Apple’s domestic manufacturing commitment — the company is preparing to start producing the Mac Mini at a Houston factory later in 2026, with Cook having toured the facility with Trump administration officials this month.
  • The September product event will be unusually dense: alongside the foldable iPhone and iPhone 18 Pro, Apple is preparing new Apple Watches with minor feature upgrades and a ceramic-case option for Series 12 models, AirPods 5 (the first refresh of the entry-level earbuds since 2024), Apple’s first-ever smart home display device with facial recognition for personalized content, a new Apple TV, and a HomePod mini — followed by an OLED iPad mini (due by end of October) and additional Mac updates on a longer timeline.
  • Looking further ahead, Apple’s 2027 pipeline is its most ambitious in a decade: a second-generation foldable iPhone, touch-screen MacBook Pros with redesigned cases and OLED displays in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, camera-equipped AirPods (the first AI wearable product), and a 20th-anniversary iPhone with curved glass — a product roadmap that will define the tenure of incoming CEO Ternus and signals Apple’s long-overdue embrace of both AI hardware and form-factor innovation.

What Happened?

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman — the most reliable Apple product reporter — revealed that Apple is preparing to launch a new Mac Mini as soon as this week, ahead of its planned September iPhone event. The update ends a nearly two-year gap since the last Mac Mini refresh and addresses what Cook acknowledged has been a significant supply constraint problem, with customers waiting weeks or months for the popular AI-computing-friendly desktop. The broader product calendar emerging from Gurman’s reporting paints a picture of the most significant Apple hardware wave since the transition to Apple Silicon: a foldable phone, AI wearables, touch-screen Macs, OLED tablets, and a smart home display — all arriving across the next 12-18 months under new CEO John Ternus.

Why It Matters?

The leadership transition from Tim Cook to John Ternus on September 1 is the most significant management change at Apple since Cook succeeded Steve Jobs in 2011. Ternus, Apple’s hardware engineering chief, takes over at a moment when Apple’s competitive position — particularly in AI — is under more scrutiny than at any point in Cook’s tenure. The foldable iPhone, touch-screen Macs, and camera AirPods represent a genuine form-factor innovation agenda that Apple has been building toward for years, and Ternus will own the execution of that agenda. The Mac Mini’s emergence as a significant AI computing tool — popular for running local AI models — is also strategically notable: it suggests Apple Silicon has become genuinely competitive for AI workloads, a positioning that matters as enterprises evaluate on-device AI deployment. Apple’s commitment to Houston manufacturing, while modest in scale relative to the company’s overall production, reflects the political environment Ternus will operate in.

What’s Next?

The immediate sequence: Mac Mini launch (days away), iPhone launch event invitations (later this week), September 9 event (foldable iPhone + iPhone 18 Pro + AirPods 5 + Apple Watch), October (OLED iPad mini), and into 2027 for touch-screen MacBooks and camera AirPods. How Wall Street receives the foldable iPhone — particularly its price point and form factor — will be the most important near-term catalyst for Apple’s stock, which has underperformed the broader AI trade due to concerns about Siri’s competitive position and AI monetization. The Ternus era begins with a product wave that provides an immediate test of whether Apple’s approach to hardware innovation can re-accelerate upgrade cycles and expand the premium product ecosystem that drives services revenue growth.
