- Robinhood Markets received authorization from the Dubai Financial Services Authority to offer individuals trading and custody across 10 asset classes. These include equities, cryptocurrency, exchange-traded funds and investment tokens.
- The firm will roll out its products in 2027 from a new hub in the Dubai International Financial Centre, which will serve as its regional headquarters. CEO Vlad Tenev said the office “brings us closer to building a global platform that enables anyone, anywhere to own the highest quality financial assets.”
- Dubai is the latest step in Robinhood’s push beyond the US, where it has gained traction among young people trading individual stocks. It entered the UK in 2024, launched full operations in the European Union last year and received in-principle approval for brokerage services in Singapore in April.
- The DIFC topped 10,000 active registered firms earlier this year and continues to attract global firms, including Ken Griffin’s Citadel, despite the Iran war and broader regional tensions. That gives Robinhood a base in a growing financial hub, while also exposing the expansion to regional risk.
What Happened?
Robinhood announced the Dubai authorization in an emailed statement, Bloomberg reported. The license covers both trading and custody for individual investors across 10 asset classes. The DIFC is a special economic zone in the city, and in March it opened a cluster of new towers offering 600,000 square feet of commercial space, with tenants including Deutsche Bank and Moody’s. Robinhood’s products in the region will go live in 2027.
Why It Matters?
International expansion gives Robinhood a way to grow beyond its home market, and the Dubai license is broad, covering crypto and investment tokens alongside stocks and ETFs. Building a footprint across the UK, the EU, Singapore and now the Middle East supports Tenev’s stated goal of a global platform. For HOOD shareholders, each new market adds a potential source of customers, although Dubai will not contribute until the 2027 launch. Setting up a regional headquarters also signals a longer-term commitment to the region than a simple product rollout.
What’s Next?
The key milestone is the 2027 rollout, including which of the 10 asset classes are available at launch. Investors will also watch whether Robinhood turns its in-principle approval in Singapore into a full brokerage launch. Regional tensions tied to the Iran war remain a risk to monitor, even as global firms continue to set up in Dubai.
